The Turning Point
Long-running projects inevitably face pressure. By late 2007 and into 2008, Elwyn began experiencing structural strain. Maintaining stability, updates, and moderation required increasing effort.
Leadership Transition
The original founder gradually stepped back from direct management. Sauron remained the public figure, but the technical and strategic backbone that had sustained Elwyn from its early days was no longer fully active.
This shift was not dramatic — it was gradual. Players may not have noticed immediately, but internally the burden had changed.
Server Fatigue
As years passed, energy declined. Competing servers appeared. Community fragmentation slowly reduced peak activity. Without the same foundational drive, sustainability became harder.
